No one in Phoenix or the State of Arizona does more LAP-BAND surgery than we do, and the reason is simple: we provide the most comprehensive after-care program in the state. We know that the operation is just the start of your journey -- and we are here to help you get to your goal. In fact, we have written books about how to get there! Eligibility form is below. We also believe in our facility -- the most modern facility for laparoscopic equipment in the state. While a flat-screen, high definition may seem a lot to some -- we believe this is a part of patient safety -- allowing the surgeon to see at 30 times the power of 20-20 vision. Surgical Specialty Hospital is the only physician-own specialty hospital in the United States -- not owned by investment bankers, but physicians who believe in safety first, not the bottom line. Why would you go anywhere else? |

A BMI of 40 (generally 100 lbs over weight) or a body mass index of 35 with a co-morbidity of obesity are used as the guidelines for most insurance companies. The concensus panel made these recommendations 15 years ago for patients who were having open operations of the RNY-gastric bypass or the open Verticle banded gastroplasty. But those are major operations with much higher surgical and post operative risks than a LAP-BAND. Patients who are obese, with a BMI of over 30 may be eligible for the LAP-BAND, although insurance will probably not pay for it. Why? Because being severely overweight can have a profound effect on your life. Because the LAP-BAND is so much safer than other operations, this may be the most effective manner to lose weight. The LAP-BAND is not another gimmick, it is the start of a journey. It allows you to feel full with less food, and it becomes important to make healthy choices. We have the most comprehensive program for after-care in Arizona. We know what it takes to get our patients to their goal and to sustain it. How do we provide support? Through our support groups, workbooks, internet, books, and on-line. More than just an operation -- it is a comprehensive program to help you use your LAP-BAND. |
